DIY Installation Guide
Install in Hours, Not Days
All Asta Kayu panels are designed for straightforward DIY installation. Our five interlocking profile systems are engineered for clean, seamless results — no specialist tools required.
Before You Begin
Store panels in the room where they will be installed for 48 hours before fitting. This allows the wood to acclimatise to the room's temperature and humidity.
Ensure your wall surface is:
- Clean, dry, and free of dust or grease
- Flat and stable — no major bumps or cracks
- Suitable material: plasterboard, plywood, solid masonry, or concrete
Do not install in areas of direct moisture exposure such as bathrooms or outdoor spaces without proper ventilation and precautions.
Tools You Will Need
Tape measure and pencil
Spirit level
Mitre saw or handsaw
Construction adhesive (we recommend Bison Kit or similar)
Nail gun or finishing nails (optional, for added security)
Rubber mallet
Understanding the Connection Profiles
Each Asta Kayu collection uses a specific interlocking profile. Check your product for the correct profile type:
Profile A — Interlock Used by: Java Fumed Coffee (BW-11), Sumatra Smoked Cocoa (BW-13), Sulawesi Natural Limestone (BW-14) How it works: Panels slot together horizontally in a brick-lay pattern.
Profile B — Z Profile Used by: Special brick profile panels How it works: Panels connect via a Z-shaped interlocking edge for extra structural strength.
Profile C — Square Used by: Bromo (CW-11), Merapi (CW-12), Rinjani (CW-13), Rhombus Natural (GW-11) How it works: Panels align in a square grid, connecting on all four sides.
Profile D — Hexagon Used by: Hexa Rustic (OW-11), Hexa Kayu (OW-12) How it works: Panels connect in a hexagonal tessellation pattern.
Profile E — Parallelogram Used by: Parallel Stack (OW-21) How it works: Panels connect in a diagonal parallelogram pattern.
Step-by-Step Installation
Step 1 — Mark your baseline Using a spirit level and pencil, mark a level horizontal line across your wall as your starting baseline. This ensures your first row is perfectly straight.
Step 2 — Apply adhesive Apply construction adhesive to the back of each panel in a zigzag pattern. Make sure to cover the edges for a strong bond.
Step 3 — Place the first panel Press the first panel firmly onto the wall, aligning the bottom edge with your baseline. Hold firmly for 30 seconds.
Step 4 — Connect subsequent panels Using the interlocking profile, connect the next panel to the first. Press firmly and tap gently with a rubber mallet if needed. Work row by row.
Step 5 — Check level regularly Every 3–4 panels, use your spirit level to check alignment. Adjust before the adhesive sets.
Step 6 — Cut edge panels For panels at the edges or corners, use a mitre saw or handsaw to trim to size. Always measure twice before cutting.
Step 7 — Allow to cure Allow the adhesive to cure for at least 24 hours before applying any pressure to the wall or mounting anything on it.
Coverage Calculation
To calculate how many boxes you need:
- Measure your wall height (in metres)
- Measure your wall width (in metres)
- Multiply height × width = total m²
- Divide total m² by the box coverage of your chosen panel
- Round up to the nearest whole number
- Add 10% extra for cuts and wastage
Example: Wall is 3m × 4m = 12 m². Hexa Rustic covers 0.50 m² per box. 12 ÷ 0.50 = 24 boxes. Add 10% = 27 boxes total.
Box Coverage Reference
Hexa Rustic (OW-11) — 0.50 m² per box Hexa Kayu (OW-12) — 0.50 m² per box Parallel Stack (OW-21) — 0.51 m² per box Bromo (CW-11) — 1.04 m² per box Merapi (CW-12) — 1.04 m² per box Rinjani (CW-13) — 1.04 m² per box Java Fumed Coffee (BW-11) — 1 m² per box Sumatra Smoked Cocoa (BW-13) — 1 m² per box Sulawesi Natural Limestone (BW-14) — 1 m² per box Rhombus Natural (GW-11) — 0.52 m² per box
